What Frame Style Will Look Best on Me?
It’s important to remember that the shape of men’s faces can often influence which style of frame looks the best on them. As an example, men with round faces should consider glasses that are more rectangular or square to achieve a more balanced flattering appearance.
What Type of Frame is Best for Me?
When shopping for your eyeglasses it is important to consider what you will be using your glasses for as well as style. For example, if you want to wear your glasses all the time, choosing a more neutral frame will help your glasses pair well with most outfits. We have broken down the different styles of frames to better help you choose which frame is the right frame for you.
Titanium Frames: If you are very active then a durable titanium, or carbon-fibre frame with polycarbonate (shatterproof) lenses might be ideal. Titanium frames are hypoallergenic and very strong, yet are still lightweight on the face. These frames are ideal for people looking for a sturdy stylish frame option.
Plastic Frames: Plastic frames tend to be thicker and bolder than their metal counterparts. A bold colourful plastic frame is an easy way to stand out in a crowd. The other benefit of plastic frames is that they tend to come in multiple different colour options. For people with a sensitive nose bridge (or allergies), plastic frames are ideal because they do not have nose pads.
Metal Frames: Metal frames can be more understated and can transition easily from the office to a nice dinner party. Metal frames have had a surge in popularity recently because they are both versatile and look good on everyone. A particularly popular type of metal frame right now is two toned (a different colour of metal up top vs down below). Metal frames usually have nose pads which makes it easy to adjust them to fit your face.
Semi Rimless: Semi rimless frames are plastic or metal up top and clear underneath. This is an ideal option for people who don’t want glasses to be the main focus of their face.
Combo Plastic/Metal: These frames are a statement piece. Usually these frames have plastic up top and metal down below. A modern, unique frame option.
Sunglasses: A proper fitting pair of sunglasses will be large enough to provide full coverage of your eyes to minimize light from reaching your eyes from the sides. Like regular eyeglasses, sunglasses can come in metal or plastic styles. What is neat about sunglasses is the tint can be personalized to you! Think anything from basic gray to a bright green mirror tint. Sunglasses are your excuse to make a statement with your eyewear.

What are Single Vision Lenses?
Single Vision Lenses have one prescription that makes up the entire lens. These can be made for distance viewing, reading viewing, or even computer viewing. Single vision lenses are the most common lens type for young people. For most people under the age of 40, single vision distance glasses can provide clear vision at all distances, without needing a second magnifying pair for up close work.
When people do lots of up close work or are over the age of 40, they sometimes need a different prescription for far away than they do for up close. Reading glasses provide magnification and clearer vision up close. However, it is important to understand that these glasses will only work for close up. If you look far away with them on, things will appear blurry. Many people who have a separate prescription for reading and distance will buy two pairs of glasses: one for distance tasks and one for close up tasks.
Our Acuity Lens
Our single vision Acuity lens comes included with your frame purchase. Made of a durable plastic material, these lenses include both an anti-scratch coating and an antireflective coating. We also offer an 18-month warranty.
What are Progressive Lenses?
Many people get eye strain up close and need reading glasses. However, it is often very tedious switching between two different pairs of glasses (one for distance and one for reading). That is where the progressive lenses come into play. These lenses provide sharp vision for far away and also have reading and computer distance vision built right in. These eyeglasses don’t have any lines (unlike a bifocal), so no one will know your glasses are progressives unless you tell them. Although most commonly progressives are worn by people over the age of 40, those that spend a lot of time looking at computer screens or their cell phones often choose progressives because it alleviates near eye strain.
At Direct Vision, we offer many different types of progressives that let you tailor your glasses to your specific visual needs:
